History of Beijing acrobatics

Chinese acrobatics is said to have started during the Warring States Period (475-221 BC) two thousand years old, though some claim it is four thousand years old on the basis of the mythical Yellow Emperor, Huangdi, having started a martial form of acrobatics at a victory celebration in Wuqiao some 300 km south of Beijing. It is interesting to know that almost every adult in Wuqiao today knows some acrobatic trick.

During Tang and Song Dynasties, the acrobatics was moved into the palace, thus promoting the prosperity of Chinese acrobatics, In Tang Dynasty, Beijing Acrobatics was famous for its Rods skills, and was recorded by history. During that time, Bejing was the place that borned many brave people were both good at Kungfu and Acrobats, acrobatics and martial arts were inseparable in civil ancient years.

In late period of Qing dynasty, the place named Old Bridge had become the representative of Beijing acrobatics, later other places such as old East Market, Hong Factory New World, south of amusement parks and so on, were appeared in Beijing. The development of Old bridge can has two main reasons: First, Han people with nong-Exploits can live in urban area of Beijing , they just lived near Old Bridge, many of them were performers of Beijing Acrobats; second is the old bridge was a piece of wasteland, loosely, so this show can be seen at here freely.

After 1949, "Chinese Circus" (later renamed the China Acrobatic Troupe) was founded, and many artists of the old Bridge joined together. After consolidating views of all sides, Premier Zhou Enlaibe renamed this art as "acrobats". from then on, it has won more and more people of love and praise in the world.
